FATHER WILLIAM LIMBERT
New Buffalo - Father William Limbert, 86, of New Buffalo passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2009 in Niles after a short illness. Father Limbert's body will be officially received at St. John's Catholic Church on Columbus Avenue in Benton Harbor on Wednesday, March 25th at 2 pm by current Pastor Fr. Bill Jacobs. Father Limbert's body will lie in state at St. John's Church for the balance of the day. Knights of Columbus will provide the honor guard during the public visitation for Father Limbert. Friends may call at St. John's Church from 2 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm Wednesday with a Rosary at 4:30pm and Night Prayers at 8:30pm A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am Thursday, March 26th at St. John's Catholic Church. Bishop James A. Murray of the Diocese of Kalamazoo will be the principle celebrant, with many of Father Limbert's brother priests of the diocese serving as co-celebrants. Burial will follow in SS John and Bernards's Parish Cemetary - Calvary Cemetery in Benton Harbor. A luncheon will be served at St. Bernard's Catholic Church Parish Center at 555 Delaware immediately following the interment. Father Limbert was born on Nov 10, 1922 in Dayton, Ohio, to Alvis and Frances (Albers) Limbert. Father Limbert was ordained to the priesthood on June 2, 1951. He would serve the Diocese of Kalamazoo faithfully for the next 37 years. Father Limbert served at St. John Catholic Church in Davison, Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Flint, St. John Catholic Church in Benton Harbor, St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in New Buffalo, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Three Rivers, Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis and St. Basil Catholic Church in South Haven. Father Limbert retired from Diocesan Service on June 12, 1988.
Father Limbert is survived by two sisters, Ruth Zinck and Rosemary Crutchfield, both of Dayton, Ohio; plus numerous nieces and nephews. He is also lovingly remembered by any number of close friends, plus hundreds of former parishioners in the six parishes he served so faithfully during his tenure as a Catholic Priest for the Diocese of Kalamazoo. He is preceeded in death by his parents, Alvis and Francese, and a brother, Louis Limbert.
